Private Vocal Lessons

Matthews Playhouse is pleased to offer Private Voice Lessons with highly qualified instructors. Our instructors are dedicated to helping students with breath control, pitch matching, harmony, audition preparation, and coaching for musical productions. Lessons are individualized to meet each student's needs, and instructors will recommend materials as necessary.​

Private Vocal  Lessons 

Foundational Voice Lessons
Ages 8 and up.
Our voice lessons are designed for individuals ages 8 and up, including both students and adults, whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance your skills. We focus on essential vocal techniques such as breath control, pitch matching, and harmony, with personalized instruction tailored to each learner’s needs. We also provide guidance on audition preparation to help you build confidence and achieve your musical goals. Regular attendance and weekly practice are encouraged to ensure progress.

 

  • Instructors: Hannah Marks (Mondays), Gabriella Gonzalez (Tuesdays), Maigan Kennedy (Wednesdays), Ra’Saun Elliott (Thursdays)

  • Length of Lesson: 30 minutes

  • Location: Matthews Community Center - 3rd Floor 

  • Pricing: $180 for Four 30-Minute Sessions

Hannah Marks

Hannah Marks is a recent Charlotte transplant with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre. She has been seen professionally in New York City, Fayetteville, and the Raleigh-Durham area, where she was a part of several regional premieres and workshops. Some favorite roles include Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors), Martha (Heathers, regional premiere), and Extraordinary Girl (American Idiot, regional premiere). She has taught acting and voice to students of all ages and has the most fun working through material with her students and seeing the spark in their eyes. When not performing or teaching, she can be found writing or reading a good book curled up with her cat.

Gabriella Gonzalez

Gabriella Gonzalez is an actor/singer/teacher who recently performed on the Matthews Playhouse stage as Margo in the critically acclaimed musical Bright Star, written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Audiences may also remember her hilarious portrayal of Inga in last season’s production of Young Frankenstein, where she brought charm and humor to the beloved role.

Beyond Matthews Playhouse, Gabriella has built an impressive résumé, with some of her favorite credits including originating the role of Zeriuah in Sticks & Stones, playing the enigmatic Witch in Into the Woods, and delivering a powerful performance as Veronica Sawyer in Heathers. With her dynamic stage presence and versatility, she continues to leave a lasting impact on audiences and students alike.

Maigan Kennedy

Maigan Kennedy completed coursework in William Peace University's BFA Musical Theatre program before finishing a Bachelor's in Theatre at Meredith College. Her favorite regional experiences are with Theatre Raleigh (Parade, The Light in the Piazza, Urinetown), North Carolina Theatre (Les Misérables), and Bartlett Theatre (The Glass Menagerie). She represented North Carolina in the International Rose of Tralee Festival in Ireland, and she joined Disney on Classic for a 45-city tour of Japan, recording for Walt Disney Records and filming television specials for Disney+. As an arts educator, Maigan developed her teaching philosophy through work with innovative programs like Justice Theatre Project, ArtsInAction, and Theatre4Change. Currently serving as a Development and Operations Consultant for Matthews Playhouse, she combines her global perspective with local commitment to help shape the next generation of theatre artists. When not at the Playhouse, Maigan continues to practice her craft as a studio vocalist and cellist. Maig’s favorite role is Mom.

Ra'Saun Elliott

Charlotte, North Carolina resident, Baritone Ra'Saun Elliott has established himself as a versatile performer in the realms of classical and musical theater. Elliott's journey into the world of music began to flourish during his time at Wingate University, where he pursued a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. Under the mentorship of esteemed instructors, he honed his craft, mastering the techniques essential for both classical and musical theater genres. Elliott's passion for the stage has led him to perform with local and regional music companies, including Opera Carolina, QC Concerts, NC Opera, and Matthew Playhouse. Recently, Ra’Saun debuted as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in "Ragtime" with QC Concerts at the Booth Playhouse in the Blumenthal Arts Center, a milestone moment that promises to showcase his depth as a performer and solidify him as an exceptional young artist in the world of music and theater.
