October 2021 - From the Desk of the Managing Director
Whew it has been a busy couple of weeks here at Matthews Playhouse! From School of Theatre starting back to the amazing production of Greenwood and now gearing up for the Haunted Trail, we are continuing to keep busy and active. With 150 students involved in classes this season, nearly 50 actors in the Haunted Trail, and over 700 students joining us this past summer for camp, we are proud to say that we are back and thriving!
Our recent production of Greenwood, our first annual Playwright’s Festival winning show, received glowing reviews and entertained and educated over 300 patrons about the Tulsa Black Wall Street Massacre. Matthews Playhouse looks forward to continuing to offer this important festival for many years to come.
The Haunted Trail is back and scarier than ever! Please mark your calendars for October 28-30 and join us for this great outdoor event. Be sure to bring a group and make the most of your night with local food trucks and community partners offering delicious treats. Don’t forget that we offer a “Not So Spooky” hour each night from 5:30-6:30pm for younger visitors (and those who are young at heart). This year we will have lots for kids and families to enjoy throughout their time at the trail.
While I know it’s not yet Halloween, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind you of our upcoming production of Miracle on 34th Street. Auditions are on October 15-16, so if you have been missing opportunities to act - this is your chance! Check our website at www.matthewsplayhouse.com for all of the details and watch for tickets to go on sale in the coming weeks.
As always it is a joy to produce quality family productions, offer educational opportunities and partner for fun events for everyone in our community. Thank you for your support of Matthews Playhouse and we hope to see you soon! Sarah Baumgardner
