Tickets for Sister Act, the feel-good musical comedy smash playing this summer at Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts, are now available for all performances during its July 15th-24th run. Based on the hit 1992 film, this uplifting musical is being praised by audience members and critics alike.

"This is a musical that hits all the right spots, achieving something close to Broadway grace." — Associated Press

“These last few years have been an especially trying time for live theatre,” says Matthews Playhouse Executive Director, Sarah Baumgardner. “Bringing ‘Sister Act’ to Matthews and to the greater Charlotte community, and watching it performed live on stage as it was intended, is going to be a breath of fresh air.” Sister Act will be directed by Paula Baldwin, choreographed by Ron Chisholm and Ellen Robison will serve as the Music Director.

Local actress, Iris DeWitt, leads the cast as disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier. After witnessing a murder, Deloris is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior, played by Carol Weiner. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Sister Act features original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), and was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
