Matthews Playhouse Shines on "Positively Charlotte"!

Updated: Aug 2

New Daytime program on Queen City News Spotlights Matthews Playhouse as we Kick off our 29th Season!

Over the last few weeks, Matthews Playhouse has been basking in the spotlight on the new daytime program, Positively Charlotte, hosted by the dynamic duo Alicia Quarles and Liza Mahachek. This fantastic new show on Queen City News has given our theatre a wonderful platform to share our stories, upcoming productions, and new educational initiatives with a broader audience.

Spotlight on One Year to Die

One of the highlights was the feature on our upcoming production, One Year to Die. Playwright Charles LaBorde, along with director and collaborator Dennis Delamar and leading actresses Paula Baldwin and Corlis Hayes (pictured above with host Liza Mahachek) , made an appearance on the show to discuss the play and the personal connections to LaBorde's own family history.

One Year to Die tells the poignant story of two American women anxiously awaiting news of their sons' fates during the harrowing days of World War II. Set to run from September 20-29, 2024, at Matthews Playhouse, this production promises to be a powerful exploration of love, loss, race and resilience. You can watch both segments featuring the team behind One Year to Die below:

New School of Theatre Programs

In another exciting segment on Positively Charlotte, Matthews Playhouse's Director of

Education, Stefanie Nicholson, along with a group of enthusiastic and talented students, discussed our newly launched School of Theatre programs for the upcoming fall and winter seasons. These programs aim to foster a love for the performing arts across all age groups and skill levels.

The new offerings include:

- Vocal Lessons: Focused on developing singing skills for ages 8+.

Special thanks to our veteran School of Theatre students—Kodi Yara, Gabby Laatz, Kenzie Schmitt, and Bennett McGrath—who joined Stefanie Nicholson on the show. They shared their personal experiences and the impact of our programs on their growth and development in the performing arts.
