“Matthews is a thriving cultural hub for the entire community, with a Mainstage season of adult productions, School of Theatre youth productions, year-round classes and camps, and a robust community partnership program." - NCTC Executive Director Angie Hays
We are thrilled to announce that Matthews Playhouse has been awarded the 2024 North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC) Community Theatre Award! Each year, the NCTC Board of Directors presents the prestigious NCTC Awards to companies, schools, and individuals that have exhibited leadership roles in their community, as well as artistic, professional, or educational excellence. This is the first award Matthews Playhouse has received from NCTC in our company's history!
“Matthews is a thriving cultural hub for the entire community, with a Mainstage season of adult productions, School of Theatre youth productions, year-round classes and camps, and a robust community partnership program,” says NCTC Executive Director Angie Hays. “We’re pleased to recognize the theatre’s staff, board, and volunteers for their commitment to producing live theatre that entertains, enlightens, inspires, and unites the community. The NCTC Board of Directors is proud to honor Matthews Playhouse with this award.”
"We are deeply honored to receive the 2024 NCTC Community Theatre Award," said Matthews Playhouse Executive Director Sarah Baumgardner. "This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team and the unwavering support of our community. As our first award from NCTC, this milestone inspires us to continue growing and providing exceptional arts experiences for everyone."
NCTC also recognized Charlotte's Three Bone Theatre with the George A. Parides Professional Theatre Award and Charlotte actor/director and Matthews Playhouse director, Sidney Horton was honored with the NCTC Marian A. Smith Distinguished Career Award.
