Celebrating its 29th year, the community-based theater has earned a distinguished reputation for delivering top-tier, engaging performances and enriching theatre classes, and the upcoming season is poised to uphold this tradition of excellence.

One Year to Die by Charles LaBorde
Performances: September 20-29, 2024
A gripping new play developed in collaboration with Dennis Delamar. One Year to Die tells the poignant story of two American women who await official word regarding their sons' fates during World War II. Recommended for ages 16 and up.
Scrooge! The Musical
Performances: December 13-22, 2024
The timeless musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is back, bringing its classic tale to the stage once more! Recommended for ages 8 and up.
Bright Star - A Musical by Steve Martin & Edie Brickell
Performances: January 17-26, 2025
Based on a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Bright Star sweeps audiences into a tale of love and redemption in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina of the 1920s and '40s. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Performances: Feb 21-March 2, 2025
Audiences will be captivated as Charlie Bucket and his friends venture into the whimsical world of Willy Wonka's iconic Chocolate Factory. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
Peter & the Starcatcher
Performances: July 11-27, 2025
Prepare to be transported on a thrilling voyage with this Tony® Award-winning play that reimagines the timeless tale of how a downtrodden orphan transforms into the iconic Peter Pan. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

2025 School of Theatre Productions
Matthews Playhouse School of Theatre students will present a series of plays and musicals for young people in the spring of 2025. Students who participate in our Fall 2024 (starting in Sept 2024) and/or Winter 2025 classes (starting in Dec 2024) are eligible to audition and perform in these productions:

Sunny, a curious meerkat, sets off on an enchanting adventure in this stage adaptation of Emily Gravett's beloved children's book. Featuring plenty of laughter and surprises, this story shares valuable lessons in courage & friendship.
Disney's Aladdin Jr.
April 4-6, 2025
Dive into the dazzling world of Agrabah with Aladdin and friends in this musical adaptation, brimming with catchy tunes, mesmerizing choreography, and the one-of-a-kind magic of the Arabian Nights.
The theatre is also pleased to announce the 6th Annual Halloween Haunted Trail will return in late October! Details on this event will be announced in the coming months.
