On October 15, 2003, the Playhouse lost one of our most beloved players, Courtney Ballard. In 1995 Courtney was cast in Alice in Wonderland, the first play ever produced at Matthews Playhouse. She was 11 years old. She was one of the first in many things including being a summer camp intern, a member of the Kitchen Kabaret acting troupe and our traveling health play.
Since the Playhouse's inception, Courtney was involved in every production. She helped with auditions, worked in the box office, built sets, helped with costumes and props, and of course performed on stage. Summer camp would not have happened without Courtney in charge of Arts and Crafts. Courtney and her family are a big reason we are what we are today.
Courtney loved everyone and everyone loved Courtney, but mostly she loved children, especially those with special needs. Her dream was to become a special education teacher. It is most fitting that a scholarship fund be named in her memory so that children can experience the theatre as she did.
Please remember this special girl by contributing to our scholarship fund. The money will allow young people to take a class they would not otherwise be able to afford.
You can donate online or by writing a check and designating it for the scholarship fund.
