Musical Theatre Companies

 

Class Overview

  • Musical Theatre 1 and 2: Classes encourage beginning students to explore their world through acting, singing, dancing and imagination.  Students are introduced to musical theatre through creative drama, ensemble games, songs and dances.
  • Musical Theatre 3 and 4: Classes are for beginning and intermediate students to learn the fundamental skills of musical theatre in a fun and supportive environment.  Students tackle the art of acting, vocal work, choreography, stage directions and stage blocking.
  • Musical Theatre 5 and 6: Classes begin to build the foundation for performance skills using the P's and C's of acting, singing and dancing. (projection, pronunciation, posture, character, creativity and courage)  These classes incorporate scene work, improv, character development, vocal direction and choreography. Actors will work with a choreographer, drama coach and musical director to perfect their performance skills.
    Musical Theatre 6 requires a placement audition.

  • Musical Theatre 7 This level is for advanced students seriously considering a future in the arts.  Classes are designed to challenge students to strengthen their technique and expand their skill set in musical theatre.  Students are also eligible to audition for Bonnie and Clyde the Musical, February, 2018. CLICK HERE to be directed to Musical Theatre 7.

 

 Class Schedule

Placement Auditions: August 30 or 31 at 6:30pm

FALL: Classes held the weeks of September 18 - December 15, 2017

WINTER: Classes held the weeks of January 8 - March 2, 2018

SPRING:  Audition for one of the two School of Theatre musical productions.

  • Rehearsals for the spring musicals March 8 - April 29, 2018
  • Rehearsals will be held 5 days a week excluding spring break - (March 30 - April 6 )
  • Shows perform the weekend of April 20 or April 29, 2018.

 

Tuition

$400 for the school year (20 weeks)

$75 production fee to participate in the spring musical

    Website Registration is not required prior to enrolling in any classes or camps.

  • Scholarships +

    Partial scholarships are available for Summer camps and will be considered up until May 1st, 2017.  Please contact the Playhouse prior to enrolling in a class, you will be given instructions on enrolling and securing a spot for the class.  Please complete the

    Scholarship Application Form

    and follow the submission guidelines. 

  • Refund Policy +

    Cancelations are accepted until 3 weeks (21 days) prior to start of class or camp. If you are unable to cancel at least 3 weeks before the class or camps first day, no refunds will be given. Prior to that time you may receive a refund minus a $25.00 administrative fee.  This $25.00 fee also applies to any changes in class registration not initiated by Matthews Playhouse.

  • Waiting List +

    Full Classes will allow for "Waiting List" enrollment.  The waiting list requires all the same steps as above with the exception of payment.  You will be notified via e-mail and phone call if a position becomes available.  If a position does become available you can make your payment by logging onto the website and going to Account Information Menu and "Your Enrolled Classes"  where you see the "Pay Now" button.
